Bar-Hopping Dad Leaves Two Children Inside Locked Car While Drinking, Slurring Words & Acting Aggressive

A Texas man is facing charges after police say he left his children in a locked car Saturday while he went bar hopping in El Paso.

According to CBS 4, El Paso police arrested Fabio Aaron Minchala and charged him with two counts of child abandonment on Saturday evening. Police say he left two children, ages two and six, locked in the car while he went to at least three bars.

Police said they found Minchala “slurring his words” inside El Paso’s Ditzy Duck Bar off Cincinnati Avenue. He allegedly admitted to leaving the children in his car and said he had planned to return to them soon. Police noted that Minchala appeared intoxicated and lost his balance while standing.

Bartenders at two other establishments in the area told police that they made Minchala leave after he became drunk and aggressive, and began bothering other customers.

NBC 9 reports that in another El Paso incident, the mother of a 10-year-old, Janett Almaraz, was charged Sunday with abandonment after leaving her child in the car while she allegedly drank at St. Martin bar in the 4000 block of N. Mesa.

The children were OK, police said, but said they were hungry.

Minchala has since been released from jail after posting bail. Almaraz also posted bail but was re-booked into jail for a probation violation. She remains behind bars without bail for the probation violation charge.
