A Colorado man convicted in October of killing a 9-month-old baby has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, but the baby’s father said he’s disappointed the killer didn’t get the maximum 48 years.
Cain Gallardo was found guilty of child abuse resulting in the death of Gianna “Gigi” Rosales in August 2020, KMGH reported. The baby’s mother, Jolene Beyer-Lacrue, will stand trial on the same charge early next year.
As the sentence was handed down, the baby’s family wore “Justice for Gianna” T-shirts in the courtroom.
“It’s not the justice we want,” said Anthony Rosales, the baby’s father. Rosales said he hopes the baby’s mother gets the full sentence.
“It just shows that it isn’t that hard to be a parent,” Rosales said. “And it isn’t that hard to get your daughter to safety. It isn’t hard to keep your daughter safe. You know, and that’s the big problem about this issue is they didn’t they didn’t keep her safe. And she’s gone.”
Beyer-Lacrue’s trial begins February 12.
