A 42-year-old Washington state man was arrested after an hour-long standoff with Pierce County deputies, which followed the discovery of his son’s mother’s body in his apartment.
The investigation began shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday when the concerned parents of a woman requested a welfare check, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said. The parents said their daughter had gone to pick up her son from his father’s apartment but didn’t return. Instead, the father dropped the son off and left.
Deputies found the mother’s vehicle parked at Hillside Glen Apartment Complex, where the father lived, and obtained a key to go inside, where the found the woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Deputies issued a Be On the Look Out bulletin for the missing father, and his vehicle was located on a trail in Buckley about three hours later.
Buckley Police and other agencies surrounded the vehicle but could not convince the man to surrender. Authorities shot out the back window of the vehicle with “less lethal” rounds and eventually brought him into custody using a taser.
He was taken to a hospital for a check up before being booked on a first degree murder charge.
Investigators have not released the names of the suspect or the victim.
