Nevada officials have released surveillance footage of the moments before a 16-year-old high school student attacked a teacher and tried to rape her last year.
Jonathan Garzia-Martinez was sentenced in June to 16 to 40 years for the incident at Eldorado High School. KLAS reported that footage showed Garzia-Martinez trying to enter a classroom and walking away before a teacher, identified as Sade, pops her head out of that classroom.
In subsequent footage, Garzia-Martinez is seen struggling with the teacher and dragging her into the classroom — where the attack continued. The teen was filmed leaving the classroom almost 90 minutes later.
“I would wake up in a new spot and position each time knowing that he’d just drag my limp, and near lifeless body to a different part of the classroom to do whatever he so chose to do with my body, as I lay unconscious. He’d beat my body so badly that I could no longer fight,” the victim recalled in court, KLAS reported.
Garzia-Martinez slammed Sade’s head into a table and tried to strangle her with a cord. The Messenger reported that Sade woke up to find her pants and underwear had been pulled down.
According to prosecutors, Sade claimed Garzia-Martinez told her, “Why won’t you just die?” She also told police that the teen said he was attacking her because he “didn’t like teachers.”
Clark County School District police located Garzia-Martinez in a car near his home shortly after the attack. KLAS reported that he was wearing a ROTC uniform, which he was not wearing at the school.
Reports indicated that Garzia-Martinez smirked as he was sentenced.
