Illinois police confirmed on Wednesday that a body found in a pond a day earlier was a 17-year-old girl who vanished last week.
WMAQ reported that Brissa Romero suffered no significant injuries and her death was consistent with a drowning. Romero’s body was recovered from the same pond in Vernon Hills where her car was discovered a day earlier.

Romero vanished on December 4 while on the way to a holiday work party at a Bowlero in Vernon Hills. Police said she was last seen near an intersection, and her phone last pinged near the bowling alley where the party took place.
Romero is not believed to have made it to the party. Police said evidence suggests the teen had “accidentally driven into the pond after the driver failed to navigate the T-intersection,” according to WMAQ.
Police said there is no indication of foul play.
