Update: Arrest Made in Stabbing Death of Teen Mom Over Purse She Was Carrying

Houston police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a 17-year-old mom of a 6-month-old baby near the upscale Galleria shopping area.

Police said the teen, identified as Kayla Stevenson, was walking to work when she was robbed and stabbed multiple times. Witnesses described the suspect as a woman between 25 and 35 years old wearing black clothing and ariding a blue “cruiser style” bicycle.

The bike was found abandoned nearby, as CrimeOnline previously reported. Police said the suspect took a pink Juicy Couture purse, with hearts and a rhinestone “JC” logo, from Stevenson.

“They took someone very important to me,” Stevenson’s mother, Kylie Stevenson, said. “She was a fun-loving, free spirit, ya know. She was goofy, she always made me laugh, she was really happy.”

“It was the stupidest thing ever, she said. Not only did they kill her to take her purse, they took her phone they tried to use her bank card. You continued to violate her after she had died.”

Kylie Stevenson, told KTRK that the purse contained her daughter’s wallet, phone, and keys and that her bank card had already been used by the time she called to have it locked.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said they are waiting for the district attorney’s office to file charges before releasing any further information about ths suspect.
