A New Jersey man was arrested last week for allegedly killing his elderly mother, who was decapitated.
NJ.com reported that on December 8, Jeffrey Surgent, 46, called Ocean County police about his mother’s murder. Responding police officers allegedly found Surgent — nude and covered in blood — in an apartment hallway on top of Alexandria Surgent’s headless body, a few feet from her severed head.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed Jeffrey Surgent dragging his mother into the hallway and lying on top of her body.
Jeffrey Surgent allegedly told responding police officers that he was mentally ill and apologized for his mother’s murder. He sang “Jesus Loves Me” as he was arrested, according to WPVI.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Jeffrey Surgent has a history of mental health issues. He is being held in a medical facility as he faces charges of first-degree murder, weapons offenses, and refusal to submit to fingerprinting.
