A missing South Carolina woman’s ex-boyfriend has now been charged with murder.
A newly released warrant accuses Daniel Gabriel Harmon, 34, of killing Jamilla “Millie” Smith in early December, around the time that Smith called 911 to say that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home and was chasing her down the road, WJBF reported.
Both Harmon and Smith were reported missing on December 3, a day after that 911 call, as CrimeOnline reported. Harmon was arrested on December 5 after an hours-long standoff and charged with domestic violence and kidnapping in connection with Smith’s disappearance. He is currently being held without bond at the Aiken County Detention Center.
Smith sounded out of breath on the December 2 911 call, the affidavit filed with the warrant says, according to WLTX. After the dispatcher asked where she could meet a deputy, a car engine revved and Smith screamed. Then, a male voice was heard telling Smith to get into the car because he was going to take her to an emergency room.
Smith continues to scream, the affidavit says, telling the man not to touch her, not to hurt her, and accusing him of hitting her, WJBF said. He says she jumped in front of the car, and she says she didn’t. Smith again tells the man to leaver her alone, adding that she is hurting. She screams the word “no,” and accusing the man of running over her.
According to the affidavit, police began a search for a black Dodge Charger that Harmon was renting after Smith’s mother reported her missing. The vehicle was found on December 5 in front of a home on Carpentersville Road with a cover over it. Harmon was inside the home, beginning the stand-off.
Officers secured a search warrant for the vehicle the next day and found suspected blood in the trunk. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division conducted DNA tests on the suspected blood and sent the results to Aiken County investigators on Sunday, but the results were redacted in the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, investigators believe Harmon hit Smith with the Charger and did not take her to the hospiatl.
The affidavit says there’s been no activity on Smith’s phone since December 2, and she has made no contact with her mother, father, children, or siblings.
