‘Cult Mom’ Lori Vallow Daybell’s Arizona Trial Delayed After Judge Deems Her Case ‘Complex’

An Arizona judge has deemed “cult mom” Lori Vallow Daybell’s case “complex,” allowing prosecutors and defense attorneys more time to gather evidence and delaying its previously scheduled April start date.

Vallow Daybell has already been convicted in Idaho in the murders of two of her children and her fifth husband’s first wife and was extradited last month to face conspiracy charges in the death of her fourth husband and the attempted murder of her niece’s ex-husband, as CrimeOnline has reported.

Both of the Arizona crimes were allegedly carried out by her brother, Alex Cox, who died a few months later, reportedly of natural causes. Cox was also involved in some capacity in the deaths of 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, whose bodies were found on the property of Chad Daybell, Vallow Daybell’s husband, after months of searching for them.

Chad Daybell is awaiting trial in Idaho on the same charges faced by his wife — the deaths of the two children and his wife, Tammy Daybell — with the trial set to begin April 1. He has not been implicated in Arizona in the death of Charles Vallow or the attempted murder of Brandon Boudreaux.

According to KSAZ, attorneys on both sides in the Vallow Daybell case now have until late February to come to an agreement about a new start date for her trial. The scheduling conference is set for February 21, according to court documents. Two days before that date, the new order says, the attorneys must provide documentation for a list of issues, including the new start date, estimated length of the trial, and a schedule for discovery production.

The judge set a trial assignment conference for August 1, at which time the attorneys will set dates for a trial procedure conference and jury selection.

Meanwhile, in Idaho, Judge Steven Boyce granted a request by both prosecutors and defense attorneys in the Chad Daybell case to provide subpoenas under seal.
