On Thursday, California police arrested a man who allegedly broke into a home last month and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.
KNBC reported that Marcos Maldonado, 35, was arrested in the Santa Clarita area while aboard a Bakersfield-bound bus. Culver City police said Maldonado had been living at a Los Angeles-area hotel after breaking into a Culver City home on December 2 and raping a 12-year-old girl in a bedroom.
Maldonado allegedly entered the home via a balcony. The victim’s mother said he left through the front door, according to KNBC.
Culver City police said Maldonado carried out the assault four to five hours before he fled the home.
DNA evidence reportedly linked Maldonado to the crime scene. A neighbor’s security camera also apparently filmed him leaving the victim’s home after the break-in and assault.
There is no evidence indicating Maldonado knew the victim, according to KNBC.
Maldonado is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. His bond was set at $1.25 million.
