A 5-year-old Alabama boy was shot dead Sunday morning and a man critically injured when someone opened fire at a house in a Birmingham suburb.
Bessemer Police said the shooting took place at about 10 a.m. The victims were outside the home, where the boy’s mother had brought her son to get a haircut. The man who was shot was the barber.
“We know someone not at the house shot towards the house,’’ Bessemer Police Det. Justin Burmeister told AL.com.
The boy was rushed to Children’s of Alabama hospital, where he died. The man was taken to the University of Alabama-Birmingham hospital.
Burmeister said no one is in custody but said they were working several leads.
“It’s terrible,’’ he said. “Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly challenging time.”
“We know someone not at the house shot towards the house,’’ Burmeister said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
