A 55-year-old man accused of killing his 26-year-old wife and fleeing to Nevada is now back in Pennsylvania to face charges.
Nicole Zambrano was found dead in the home she shared with Arthur Guty Jr. on January 1, WTAE reported. Guty was arrested the next day when investigators pinged his cell phone in Las Vegas.
He was charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault and was arraigned on Monday and sent to jail without bond.
Investigators told KDKA that Zambrano was found in a bedroom of the home with a gunshot wound to the head. Neighbors across the street reported hearing a gunshot on December 23, and Zambrano was reported missing on December 24.
Guty had $100,000 in cash on him when he was arrested, the station said.
As CrimeOnline reported, police conducted a welfare check at the home after Zambrano was reported missing, but Guty told officers he didn’t know where she was and hadn’t heard from her since before Christmas. Sometime after that encounter, Guty left for Las Vegas.
Zambrano, a native of Venezuela, was reported missing by her coworkers at Nemacolin resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania, who said she had missed work for several days, WTAE said.
“Miss Zambrano is one of many people that have come to this country to gain employment, to better herself, and she was working at Nemacolin,” Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said.
Carlos Ramirez, a close family friend, told WTAE that she had worked at the resort for a year and a half as a housekeeper and that he had introduced her to Guty.
“Her life changed for a while, until disaster now,” he said.
