A California mother has been charged with murder in the death of her 4-month-old daughter.
Jazmin Laci Johnson, 30, was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday morning after a neighbor called police and reported hearing screams from the apartment, KCRA reported. Responding officers found the infant unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Rocklin Police had been called to the apartment hours earlier by another neighbor who said that Johnson was acting erratically. The officers who responded at about 5 p.m. on Friday did not think the baby was endangered, however, and left.
Johnson was initially charged with voluntary manslaughter and child assault, but a complaint filed Tuesday in Pacer County Superior Court charges her with premeditated murder and assault on a child causing death.
