North Carolina officials said a body found on Wednesday in a car trunk likely belongs to a woman who was murdered by an acquaintance.
WRAL reported that Amarriah Smith, 19, was found in the trunk of a car belonging to suspect Jordan Thomas, 29. Thomas’ car was towed from a private parking lot in Beaufort County, where it was allegedly abandoned he after stole another vehicle.
The tow truck employee who towed Thomas’ car reportedly discovered Smith’s body in the trunk.
Smith and Thomas reportedly knew each other, though the nature of their relationship was not disclosed.
According to WITN, authorities believe Smith was killed at a different location. Evidence related to the murder was reportedly discovered at an Edenton home where Thomas was residing.
Smith’s cause of death is pending. Thomas is charged with murder, concealing the death of a person, and larceny of a motor vehicle. He remains jailed without bond.
