*FOUND SAFE*: 5-year-old Kentucky Girl Missing After Mother Found Shot in Back of Her Head

Kentucky officials issued an Amber Alert following an incident where a man reportedly shot the mother of his child in the back of the head and subsequently abducted their daughter.

According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 5-year-old Lela Black was last seen Friday with 42-year-old Byron Black. State police learned Monday that the child’s mother, Kelly Black, was shot in the back of the head inside her Princeton home, in the western part of Kentucky.

The suspect has reportedly been identified as Lela’s biological father, Kentucky State Police said.

“On January 28, 2024, KSP was dispatched to the residence that the juvenile was known to reside in Princeton, KY,” NCMEC wrote. “Through investigation it was determined that black received a gunshot wound to the back of the head.”

The suspect could be driving a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado with California license plate number, 5J83779. Police said the vehicle has peeling paint on the hood.

Lela is described as a white female who stands 3 feet 3 inches tall and weighs around 40 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. Black is described as a white male who stands 6 feet tall and weighs around 180 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
