An Arkansas man is behind bars after police say he hid under a pile of clothes at a Sherwood Walmart parking lot, in an attempt to kidnap a child.
Police arrived at the Walmart Supercenter off Highway 107 at around 7 p.m. Monday, in response to a man allegedly trying to take a 2-year-old girl from her mother’s truck, according to the Sherwood Police Department.
Timothy Earl Caudle, 58, is accused of hiding under a pile of clothes the child’s mother placed in her vehicle. The mother said she spotted a “bald head” and a hand underneath the clothing and struggled to get her daughter out of the truck. She managed to get her daughter to safety and contacted police.
“The callers advised a man was attempting to take the victim’s 2-year-old child,” police wrote, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
“Officers arrived on the scene and contacted the victim and her young child. She stated she had returned to her vehicle and placed her child in the car before noticing an unknown man under some clothing inside the vehicle.”
“The victim said she grabbed her daughter from the vehicle, and after a short struggle, she was able to get her daughter out of the truck. The initial responding officer stated the witnesses had prevented the unknown male from getting out of the truck until officers arrived.”
Law&Crime reports that police arrested Caudle and charged him with assault, breaking and entering, endangering the welfare of a minor, false imprisonment, and obstructing government operations.
Caudle remains jailed on a $350,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for March 26.
