The parents of a Florida woman who allegedly killed her boyfriend in 2022 were arrested on Tuesday for illegally accessing the boyfriend’s laptop after his slaying.
Courtney Clenney’s mother and father, Deborah Lyn, 57, and Kim Clenney, 60, were arrested in Travis County, Texas, and charged with unauthorized access to a computer or electronic device. A search warrant for the trio’s Apple iCloud accounts revealed texts in which they discussed what passwords could be used to access a laptop belonging to Christian Obumseli, 27, according to WTVJ.

Kim Clenney allegedly wrote, “Are there any PIN/passwords we can try before you see her tomorrow?”
According to WTVJ, he eventually learned Obumseli’s PIN was only comprised of numbers, not letters.
He reportedly responded the following day, “Hell yeah! That PIN worked!”
Authorities alleged that various items were taken from Obumseli’s Edgewater condo following his murder. At some point, an attorney allegedly advised Kim Clenney not to go through the Obumseli’s laptop as it could make him a witness in his daughter’s case.
The laptop was eventually turned over to Courtney Clenney’s lawyers, authorities said. Despite this, her parents were still criminally charged because it is illegal in Florida to access someone’s computer without their permission.
Courtney Clenney was arrested in Hawaii in August 2022, several months after she fatally stabbed Obumseli at their Florida condo. While prosecutors argued Obumseli was the victim of domestic violence, defense attorneys claimed Obumseli was the aggressor and his girlfriend was acting in self-defense.
Courtney Clenney remains jailed on second-degree murder charges. The Tampa Bay Times reported that her parents will likely be extradited to Miami-Dade County to face charges.
