A Texas man wanted for raping a child was arrested this week, just days after local police appeared on television asking for help finding him.
White Settlement Police said that Steven Skalij had been previously arrested on a sexual assault of a child charge, but after a judge lowered his $500,000 bond to $100,000 and he bonded out, investigators learned there were more victims, KDFW reported.
Skalij had agreed to surrender on the the new charges but never showed up, Police Chief Christopher Cook said.
On Saturday, Cook tweet that Skalij was in custody, thanking the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Bill Waybourn. He did not provide any details about how he was taken into custody.
“He used to reside in our community,” Cook told KDFW’s “Trackdown” earlier this week. “We also know that he used to have a construction business in our community as well. We think that someone will recognize him.”
Cook said that Skalij had been arrested in October 2023 on one count of sexual assault of a minor. Tarrant County jail records show three counts, each with a $100,000 bond.
