A missing Vermont woman found deceased earlier this week was intentionally killed, police say.
An autopsy confirmed that 29-year-old Kayla Wright, of Derby, died from a head wound caused by a gunshot. State Police are ruling her death a homicide.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Wright was reported missing on Saturday, according to Vermont State Police. Her body, found on a sandbar along the Missisquoi River, was sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington, which determined her identity and cause of death.
Three people were subsequently arrested, including Bryanna Rooney, Thomas Rooney, and Jakiy Tramaine-Corey Keith. All three are facing federal drug offenses, accused of conspiring with each other to sell and distribute controlled substances.

Kayla Wright Death: Crimina… by Leigh Egan
“She was so sweet. When it came down to it, she really cared about her family so much, which is why we knew something was wrong so quickly, because of the fact that, she ignored people,” friend Sara Davis told My Champion Valley. “But she never ignored her family, and she never ignored me.”
“A lot of people will try to say certain things, you know, ‘she had a problem,’ and yes, she had her problems. But I don’t want those problems to overshadow her. I understand there’s a bigger picture going on, but she still needs to be remembered too.”
