A Florida man out on a $150 bond for a theft case was seen on video Thursday trying to kidnap a 4-year-old child.
The boy’s father stopped the attempted abduction, but 26-year-old Nicolas Sternaman wriggled out of his grasp, leaving his jacket behind and fleeing from the CVS Pharmacy where the incident took place, WPLG reported.
The father and a witness pursued him down Collins Avenue in Miami Beach’s North Beach neighborhood and were quickly joined by police officers, who arrested him several blocks away.
The arrest report said that Sternaman lives in a condo in South Beach.
The video shows the family leaving the store as Sternaman enters. He abruptly turns around and grabs the boy by the neck, directly in front of his father, who wraps his arms around the would-be kidnapper.
Court records show that Sternaman had a status hearing on the petit theft charge earlier Thursday morning and is due in court for trial on that charge on April 1.
