Bronx Woman Shot Dead in Apartment, Nephews Wounded

A 40-year-old Bronx woman was shot to death in her home and her two nephews wounded early Saturday morning.

New York Police took her estranged boyfriend into custody for questioning Saturday afternoon, the New York Daily News reported.

Officers were called to the Bedford Park apartment shortly after 5 a.m. for a report of an assault in progress, police said, and found Xiomara Bonilla with multiple gunshots to the chest. Her nephews, ages 16 and 8, were seriously wounded, her family said.

Bonilla’s brother, Kelvin Reyes, said the ex-boyfriend had been stalking his sister for weeks.

“(He) really killed my sister,” Reyes told the Daily News. “She was taking care of my nephews. She was trying to leave him.”

Reyes said that the former boyfriend “was following her everywhere” despite the break-up.

“My nephews were there and he came behind my sister,” Reyes said. “They were arguing, and he shot my sister first and (then) shot my two little nephews.”

Bonilla was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The teen nephew was treated for wounds to his buttocks at St. Barnabas, while the younger boy was taken to Jacobi Hospital for unspecified injuries. Both are expected to survive.

No charges have been filed in the case.
