A woman and her 1-year-old son were found dead on Saturday in what Texas police are investigating as a murder-suicide.
Briana Monroe, 26, and Giavon August were reported missing after a man called the police claiming Monroe had sent him a text message about killing her son and herself. Police and Monroe’s family had tracked her phone to Beaumont Municipal Airport before one of her cousins discovered the two bodies less than a mile away at a park in Beaumont, according to KBMT.
Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins told the news outlet that Monroe’s body was found in the driver’s seat of her car while her son was located in the backseat. Collins also revealed the pair had been shot, according to KFDM.
On Facebook, a man claiming to be the father of one of Monroe’s other children said he got a text message from Monroe stating, “Take care of our son.” His post also suggested that Monroe has three sons, including August.
An autopsy is pending.
