The New York medical examiner ruled the death of Denisse Oleas-Arancibia a homicide, the New York Daily News reported.
Staff at the SoHo 54 Hotel found Oleas-Arancibia’s body in her 11th floor room at about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, as CrimeOnline reported. A bloody iron was found near her body, and a pair of bloody pants with a receipt inside was found in the room, investigators said.
Oleas-Arancibia’s 18-year-old son, Edwin Cevallos, said that he didn’t know what his mother did for a living, but she left their Queens home for work in Manhattan every day. He said that she seemed nervous and worried the week before her death but didn’t know if it was related.
Cevallos told the Daily News that he, his mother, and her nephew had come to the United nights from Ecuador. Her 13-year-old son and her parents still live there, he said.
“She was always working for us to give us the best life in this country,” he said. “She always had money to cover anything in the house. She didn’t owe no money to anybody.”
