A Florida woman was arrested on Wednesday, weeks after a 10-month-old boy was reportedly hospitalized with injuries consistent with abuse.
On January 14, babysitter Heather Hogan, 39, told Suwannee County Fire Rescue crews that the baby boy had a seizure and fell off the couch multiple times. The baby not only tested positive for cannabis and had a broken collarbone, but he also suffered injuries to his mouth which affected his eating, according to WCJB.
Fire crews reportedly alerted police after noticing bruises on the infant which suggested abuse. Doctors also determined the boy — who cannot see due to the abuse — had subdural hematomas and fractures to bones in his leg and spine that were consistent with being yanked and landing on a hard surface, according to WCJB.
The baby was reportedly released from the hospital, but the abuse has left him with long-term disabilities.
A monthlong investigation that entailed reviewing cell phone and web browsing data led to Suwannee County police charging Hogan with aggravated child abuse and neglect. Her bond was set at $600,000.
