Philly Police Find Vehicle Used in Bus Stop Shooting of 8 High School Students

Philadelphia police released video of three suspects who opened fire on a group of teenagers at a bus stop Wednesday afternoon.

Eight students at the city’s Northeast High School were wounded, one critically, in the shooting in the Burholme neighborhood, as CrimeOnline reported.

Police said that a dark blue Hyundai that matched the description of one the suspects were in was found overnight, parked in the Olney neighborhood several blocks away, and taken to an impound lot, WPVI reported. Investigators believe the vehicle was stolen from the same general area.

Police said more than 30 shots were fired at about 3 p.m. as the bus pulled up to the stop and the group gathered to get on it.

“At some point when the bus is pulling up and the kids are converging to get on the bus, three individuals exit that vehicle and then discharges multiple times,” said Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel.

The three scrambled back to the vehicle, which took off from the scene. A fourth person was driving.

A 16-year-old boy was shot nine times and was in critical condition.

“His friend was sitting there holding him and crying, and telling him to keep his eyes open. ‘Stay awake. Don’t go to sleep. Stay with me. Stay with me,'” said Holly Castor, who works nearby and rushed over to help.

The other victims — two 15-year-olds, four 16-year-olds, and a 17-year-old — were listed as stable, police said.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority said two buses near the scene were struck by gunfire but no passengers or employees were struck.

Police are on extra patrols in the area as a result of the shooting and another one last week in which a student at another high school was killed. Two other students and two passengers on a bus were wounded. Police are investigating to see if the two shootings might be related.
