‘I just found a dead body’: 911 Caller Describes Finding Riley Strain in River

A river worker reportedly called 911 on Friday claiming he found the body of a Missouri man who vanished in Tennessee two weeks earlier.

A man working for Holcim, a building materials company, told a 911 dispatcher that he was checking the dock when he discovered Riley Strain, 22, “facedown” in the Cumberland River.

WKRN reported that Holcim unloads barges on the river, where local businesses were told to watch out for the missing college student.

“My company works on the river. I have just found a dead body — I believe it to be Riley,” the employee said in the 911 call, according to WKRN.

The news outlet reported that Strain’s body was located near river marker 184. The 911 caller also described how only Strain’s back was visible  — so he “move[d] a log off of the head to confirm it was a body.”

Strain, a University of Missouri student, vanished on March 8 after being kicked out of Luke Bryan’s bar in Nashville. Strain was attending a fraternity conference there when he vanished. Bar staff reportedly escorted Strain off the premises, believing he had too much to drink. The bar claimed they served Strain only one drink.

Strain was found dead eight miles from where he vanished two weeks earlier. A preliminary autopsy suggests his death was accidental and foul play is not suspected.
