A Texas court last week gave a 17-year-old charged with killing an India-born Georgia family of six in a drunk driving crash a $50,000 bond and let him out with home monitoring.
Luke Resecker was charged with six counts of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of intoxication assault, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana for the December 26, 2023 crash, WSB reported.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said Resecker’s Chevrolet Silverado hit the Alpharetta family’s Hona Odyssey head on as he tried to pass another car in a no-passing zone.
Resecker and his passenger, another 17-year-old, were hospitalized in critical condition. Family members told WSB the crash killed Nageswararao Ponnada, 64, his wife Sitamahalakshmi Ponnada, 60, their daughter Naveena Potabathula, 36, and their grandchildren, 10-year-old Pkrithik Potabathula and 9-year-old Nishidha Potabathula. Another family member, 28-year-old Rushil Barri, was driving the Odyssey and was also killed.
Another member of the family, 43-year-old Lokesh Potabathula, was hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities said Resecker was not medically fit to be jailed last week when he was charged. But he later posted bond and was released.
