An Alabama daycare employee has been charged with murder in the death of an infant at the facility where she worked.
Versa Mae Simmons, 68, was arrested on Friday in Demopolis, WSFA reported.
Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers told the station medics were called to Tender Years Monday afternoon for an unresponsive infant. The medics administered CPR and then took the baby to Whitfield Memorial Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
Video footage from the facility and interviews with other employees led to Simmons’s arrested, Flowers said, although he did not provide further information.
The infant’s body has been sent to the state lab for an autopsy. Simmons is awaiting arraignment at the Marengo County Detention Center.
