UPDATE

Police say Chad Mays has been found safe after a passerby spotted him getting ice cream in Manhattan, according to FOX 5 New York. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Initial Story

Police in New York are searching for an 18-year-old who inexplicably vanished while out on a bike ride in his Laurelton neighborhood.

According to CBS News New York, Chad Mays was last seen on Monday while getting his bicycle from his backyard in Laurelton, at a little after 5 p.m. His family became worried when he didn’t return home by 6 p.m. He typically rides for around 30 minutes, then returns home.

“It’s unusual and it’s very scary because no matter what he’s gonna come home. He’s gonna be hungry. He needs to use the restroom. It’s not like he’s gonna run away. That’s not him at all,” his sister, Shenelle Williams, said.

Now, the community is searching for Mays and his bike, described as a white and black Huffy men’s mountain bike. They searched on foot and by car, then reported the teen missing to police.

According to his family, officers then utilized K-9 units and drones in their search efforts.

“I’ve been looking for him ever since. I didn’t sleep all night, didn’t eat nothing,” his mother, Muriel Williams, told CBS News.

The family added that Mays doesn’t use public transportation or drive, and typically has someone with him at all times. He is also non-verbal but will respond to his name.

Mays is described as a Black male who stands 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 130 pounds. He was last seen in a grey sweatshirt, black jogging pants, a black shirt, and black shoes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact police.
