Massachusetts Woman Found Dead in Her Home After Being Reported Missing

A 56-year-old Massachusetts woman, recently reported missing, was found dead in her home in Weymouth this week.

Police say they are investigating Christine Ruth Mello’s death as a homicide, WCVB reports. An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, but the results have not been released other than to say it appeared Mello had been dead for “a number of days.”

“The information we have at this time, including the apparent passage of time, includes no indication of any ongoing danger to the community,” Weymouth police Chief Richard Fuller said in a statement.

Neighbors told WBTS that police initially showed up at Mello’s home on Saturday. It’s not clear if they went inside at that time, but the body was found on Monday.

Anthony Arredondo, who lives in the other half of the duplex where Mello lived, said he last saw her in late February and sent a text about 10 days ago.

“She apparently responded but we don’t know if it was her. The texts were wonky, they didn’t look right, it was weird. Not how she’d respond,” he said.

Neighbors told WCVB that a man had recently moved in with Mello. It’s not known who he is or if he is part of the investigation.
