The wife of a Texas judge appeared in court Saturday morning after she allegedly shot and killed her nephew during a fight earlier this week, KTRK-TV reports.
Authorities say that around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, 48-year-old Mei Wolfe fatally shot the recent college grad at her home in the Katy area in northwest Harris County near Houston.
Wolfe is the wife of Harris County Justice of the Peace Bob Wolfe, according to KHOU-TV.
The victim, who was in his early 20s, had been staying with the couple for several months after traveling. Investigators believe that Mei Wolfe and the victim got into some sort of argument over how long he would be staying at the residence.
The wife may not have wanted the nephew in the home any longer, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said, according to KTRK-TV.
At some point, Mei Wolfe grabbed a gun. Her husband called 911 and he allegedly tried to take the gun away, but she managed to fire the weapon and a bullet struck the nephew, according to KPRC-TV.
Medics rushed to save the unnamed nephew, but he was pronounced dead at the home.

“Very tragic situation,” Gonzalez said, according to KTRK-TV. “Our condolences go out to the extended family and everybody impacted by this loss.”
Mei Wolfe’s adult daughter was also in the home at the time of the shooting, according to KTRK-TV.
Prosecutors have charged Mei Wolfe with murder. She was granted a $100,000 bond, but it was unclear whether she was released on bond. If she is released, she will be prohibited from having guns and must surrender her passport.
