A newly-release arrest warrant provided additional details in connection with a 27-year-old mother found deceased in a Dallas apartment last week.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by The Dallas Morning News, a witness told police that the man accused of killing Corinna Johnson had wrapped her in bedding and placed her in a closet in his apartment.
The suspect, 34-year-old Omar Lucio, is now charged with murder.
A witness approached the Garland police station early Monday, reporting a suspected homicide that occurred around 24 hours earlier at an apartment in the 1300 block of West Wheatland Road.
Garland police notified Dallas police, who dispatched officers to the apartment at around 1:50 a.m. The suspect initially refused to exit the residence but complied at around 3 a.m.
Upon entering the apartment, officers observed “what appeared to be a blood trail” in multiple rooms. An officer detailed in the affidavit that the body was “bludgeoned and still at the location.”
Inside the suspect’s vehicle, they found clothing with apparent blood stains on them.
Meanwhile, the witness informed a detective that she had known Lucio for around six months and occasionally met up with him. On the Sunday in question, Lucio allegedly messaged her around 1 a.m., requesting her to pick him up, claiming he did not want to return home.
After picking him up, the witness claimed that Lucio said he was with Johnson at a downtown Dallas bar but became upset when they were kicked out of the establishment. Subsequently, he allegedly attacked her.
“[The witness] stated the suspect told her that he had put his hands on [Johnson] and stated he had knocked some sense into her and that she became unresponsive,” the arrest affidavit stated.
The defendant then asked the witness to bring him back to the apartment to check on Johnson, and that’s when they found her unconscious.
Lucio later told police that he brought Johnson upstairs, hoping she would wake up. He reportedly whispered it would “be ok,” but then discovered she was not breathing, ABC 8 reports.
He also allegedly admitted to having temper issues and that he “snapped” while confronting Johnson.
Erica Hernandez, Johnson’s older sister, said the victim had been in a relationship with Lucio for around six or seven years and was in a domestic violence situation.
Johnson leaves behind a 7-year-old son.
