A Tennessee block party turned tragic Saturday evening when gunfire erupted, leaving two people dead and six others injured, WMC reports.
Police responded around 7 p.m. to Orange Mound Park in Memphis, where two men were found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
The other victims – at least five of whom had been shot – were rushed to the hospital. The Memphis Fire Department dispatched multiple ambulances to the site, but some of the injured were also driven in private vehicles, according to Fox News.
Several of the hospitalized victims were in critical condition for a time, but all the injured are now in stable condition or have been discharged, according to WMC.
Approximately 200 to 300 people were attending the party, which was being held without a permit, Interim Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis said, according to WREG-TV.
“We are working tirelessly tonight to identify the individuals who were involved in this shooting,” Davis said Saturday, according to CNN.
Investigators believe at least two people fired guns during the incident. As of Sunday morning, authorities had not reported any arrests.
Police initially said that as many as 14 people had been hospitalized, but the number of injuries was later revised to six.
There have been more than 115 mass shootings in the United States since the beginning of the year, CNN reports.
