A 10-year-old Oklahoma boy awoke Monday morning to find his parents and three brothers dead from a murder-suicide perpetrated by his father.
Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight said the child called 911 at about 9:30 a.m. and told a dispatcher that “everyone inside the home appeared to be dead.”
“Investigators determined that sometime overnight, the husband and father of the home, Jonathan Candy, became involved in an altercation with his wife Lindsay” and shot her “multiple times,” Knight said.
“At that point he systematically went through the home shooting the children,” he said.
The children were identified as Dylan Candy, 18; Ethan Candy, 14; and Lucas Candy, 12, according to The Associated Press. Knight said that Lindsay Candy, 39, and one of the children were found downstairs and the other two children were found upstairs. At least one was shot to death in his bed.
“What happened in that residence was nothing short of a massacre,” he said. “The children were hunted down and killed.”
“One child, the one who called 911, was left unharmed,” he said. “We don’t know why.”
Jonathan Candy, 42, then turned his gun on himself.
The surviving boy is now in the care of relatives.
