10-Year-Old Oklahoma Boy Wakes to Find Parents and 3 Brothers Shot Dead

Oklahoma investigators are trying to determine why a husband and father killed his wife and three sons but spared their youngest, a 10-year-old boy, before killing himself.

According to ABC News, 42-year-old Jonathan Candy allegedly killed wife Lindsay Candy, 39, along with their sons Dylan, 18, Ethan, 14, and Lucas, 12, before taking his own life. Around 9:35 a.m. on Monday, the surviving boy dialed 911 and reported waking up to discover his entire family deceased in their west Oklahoma City home.

Police aren’t sure why the 10-year-old was spared during the attack, Knight said, adding that there were no previous service calls or domestic violence incidents reported to police.

Investigators plan to interview friends and family members to gather more information, Law&Crime reports. A family member took in the surviving child.

“I know that’s a question everybody has,” Knight said “That’s a question we have, too. In the end, nobody ever is going to have an answer for that.”

“Certainly most horrible for that young man who woke up and found that carnage inside the home.”

Meanwhile, neighbor Michael Burcham told The Oklahoman that neighbors were shocked when they heard the news.

“All day we just couldn’t imagine,” he said. “He must have really been having a hard time.”

Anyone with information about the case should call the homicide tip line at 405-297-1200.
