Florida sheriff’s deputies on Thursday tracked down a man wanted for the brutal stabbing deaths of his girlfriend and her 4-year-old child, taking him into custody less than 24 hours after the discovery of the bodies in a mobile home park north of Tampa.
Angel Cuz-Choc, 31, is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Amalia Coc de Pec, 36, and Estrella Pec Coc, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
“This murderer who brutally murdered and committed this heinous, vile and unthinkable crime against these two innocent victims is under arrest,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
Chronister said Cuz-Choc came to Hillsborough County from Guatemala legally about three months ago with de Pec and her daughter. He was not the child’s biological father.
Deputies were called to the mobile home park in Dover at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday when a roommate came home and found the little girl’s body inside the trailer and her mother in the backyard “in her own puddle of blood.” A bloody handprint was found on the side of the mobile home.
The sheriff said the murders likely took place shortly after 3:30 p.m., when a woman said she heard a woman scream. She didn’t call 911, she said, but it was a common occurrence in the neighborhood.
By Thursday morning, police had secured a warrant for Cuz-Choc’s arrest, and a few hours later, he was located in a wooded area near Interstate 4, less than two miles from the scene of the crime. The sheriff’s office released body cam footage of the arrest. The video shows deputies making their way through the thick branches until a K9 grabbed Cuz-Choc’s jacket and held on until deputies handcuffed him.
Chronister said Cuz-Choc confessed to the murders and is being held without bond.
