A 3-year-old Texas boy who was the subject of an AMBER Alert in March — before he was found dead alongside his mother — was the victim of a murder-suicide, officials announced on Tuesday.
Bexar County coroners said Savannah and Kaiden Kriger both died of a gunshot wound to the head. However, they deemed Savannah Kriger’s death a suicide and her son’s a homicide — suggesting she killed her son before taking her own life, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

The mother and son were found dead together in a drainage ditch at Tom Slick Park in San Antonio on March 19, a day after an AMBER Alert was issued. Police said a gun was found near the crime scene, and the mother’s car was located in the park’s parking lot.
Police also said that they believe Savannah Kriger, 32, carried out the murder-suicide the same day she was due in court that morning with her son. The San Antonio Express-News reported that she and her husband were embroiled in a custody dispute at the time.
Savannah Kriger reportedly left work early to pick up her son from daycare, but concerns arose when her family could not contact her. Her phone’s GPS was also turned off.
The San Antonio Express-News reported that before her disappearance, Savannah Kriger vandalized her husband’s home and pulled their son out of school. She allegedly also sent him a message saying, “goodbye to your son.”
“I don’t understand why she would hurt her son. She would not hurt her son,” her mother told KSAT. “I want to know, like, what led up to this? If she did do this, like, what could have made her feel like she was alone?”
