A Washington man was allegedly high on PCP when he shot and killed his 9-month-old son on Saturday.
According to KIRO, Dion Montgomery’s son was pronounced dead at a Seattle home after his son’s mother told police that their child had been shot. After allegedly shooting his son, Montgomery opened fire at two people and fled.
Police reportedly apprehended Montgomery, 35, three blocks away. Montgomery allegedly admitted to using PCP and blamed his behavior on demons.
The two people who Montgomery allegedly shot at were not wounded as the bullets struck nearby cars.
Montgomery’s wife told police that she was in the bathroom when she heard a gunshot. She recalled asking Montgomery what that sound was, and he claimed he fired a blank round. She told officers that she left the bathroom and took the gun from Montgomery, who then left the home.
The baby’s mother reportedly spoke with police after she found the infant wounded and ran outside for help, KCPQ reported.
The mother, who was also taken in for questioning, allegedly told officers that she and Montgomery smoked marijuana on Saturday. However, Montgomery said he also smoked PCP before the shooting, according to KCPQ.
Montgomery’s wife reportedly told police that he often kept a gun on him. She also claimed Montgomery sometimes gets a “weird look in his eyes” and he acts differently, but she knows to stay away from him when that happens.
King County prosecutors said Montgomery has 16 prior arrests for offenses including assault and burglary.
Montgomery is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $5 million.
