Grandma Gives Toddler 2 Doses of Narcan for Meth Overdose; Mom Arrested

A Washington state mother was arrested this week after her 3-year-old child overdosed on methamphetamine.

Vancouver police and fire rescue officials responded to the home on Thursday night after receiving a 911 call about a child overdosing, The Columbian reported.

The child’s grandmother told them she administered two doses of Narcan to get the toddler breathing again, but the mother had taken the child into a bedroom and refused to let medical personnel in. Police forced entry into the room and handed the child over to medics, who took them to a hospital for treatment.

Police searched the mother, identified as Summer Justice Ward, and found a plastic bag containing a white powder and foil hidden in her clothes. The powder tested positive for meth.

The 3-year-old and Ward’s other child — 2-years-old — were taken into protective custody, according to KPTV.

Ward was charged endangerment with a controlled substance, criminal mistreatment, resisting arrest, obstructing law enforcement officers, and possession of a controlled substance.
