Authorities said more details would be made available shortly.
Original story:
Investigators have no suspects in the shooting deaths of two women at a New Mexico park on Friday, and they are still looking for a 10-month-old baby who was apparently kidnapped from the scene.
The infant and a 5-year-old girl who was critically wounded with a gunshot wound to the head belonged to one of the women, identified as Samantha Cisneros, 23.
According to an Amber Alert issued by New Mexico State Police, the suspect may have been at Ned Houk Park near Clovis in a maroon Honda, model unknown.
The baby, identified as Eleia Maria Torres, is described as 28 inches tall and about 23 pounds with brown eyes and hair, as CrimeOnline reported. Cisneros and the other slain woman, 23-year-old Taryn Allen, were from Texico, a town about 9 miles east of Clovis, police said.
The FBI has joined the search for the baby, according to KLBK, which also said that the two children’s fathers are cooperating with the investigation and are not considered suspects.
At a news conference on Sunday, Clovis Deputy Chief Trevor Thron said the 5-year-old child was recovering and receiving care. Thron said the two women stopped with the children a Twin Cronnie’s for food and then stopped a Dollar Tree before heading to the park. A witness walking in the park “believed he had heard gunshots, but it was not immediately reported to law enforcement.”
The bodies were found just before 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Police found a piece of debris from a maroon Honda near the scene, but investigators are not certain it was involved in the incident.
The women’s purses and other belongings were found near their bodies in the park. Police were alerted to the missing baby when they found an infant car seat, an infant stroller, and a small bottle near a minivan belonging to one of the women.
An extensive search of the park and the surrounding area turned up no more clues. FBI Special Agent Raul Bujanda said the agency will be working with local police until the perpetrator of “these horrific acts” is found. He encouraged anyone with information to contact law enforcement, saying no detail is “too small.”
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call 575-763-9472.
