‘If you don’t hear from me in 30 minutes, he killed me’: Boyfriend Charged with Multiple Felonies, Police Find Human Remains Inside Burning Car

A South Carolina man is behind bars after police found human remains inside a burned car in Bamberg County.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police and search crews found remains inside the vehicle last week while searching for 25-year-old Megan Bodiford. She hasn’t been seen or heard from since April 25, when she sent a text to a friend, saying she feared her boyfriend, Jarrett Haskell Davis.

“If you don’t hear from me in 30 minutes, he killed me. He has a gun,” the text read.

The friend contacted the police the following day, a little before 8 p.m.

Investigators say Davis shot and killed Bodiford before leaving her body inside the vehicle. According to the Times & Democrat, police subsequently arrested Davis and charged him with:

  • Murder
  • Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime
  • First-offense possession of a weapon by a person convicted of a violent felony
  • Third-degree arson and desecration of human remains

Bodiford’s family said the remains were found a few miles from Davis’ home. A neighbor who lives near the residence said he heard gunshots overnight around three weeks ago.

The investigation has since been sent to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Police arrested Davis as he was walking out of the shed of his home. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
