Florida Man Mentions Sexually Abusing 9-Year-Old Cousin During Interview to Become Cop

A Florida man was convicted last week of sexually abusing a 9-year-old cousin — a crime which he revealed in 2021 while interviewing to become a police officer.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that Stephen Bodley, 26, first revealed playing “sexual games” with the victim in an application for Apopka police. He then told the interviewer, an investigator, that the victim likely did not realize what was going on.

The victim is Bodley’s cousin. Bodley also disclosed that the assaults occurred at his childhood home in Apopka, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

Authorities eventually tracked down the victim, who said the abuse transpired over several years when Bodley was between the ages of 14 and 18.

During his trial, Bodley denied sexually abusing his cousin and his lawyers filed a motion to suppress the comments he made while applying to work for Apopka police. Nevertheless, a jury found him guilty of sexually battering a child under 12.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 24.
