A 17-year-old Wyoming boy has been charged with murder and stalking in the death of a 17-year-old girl on Tuesday.

The boy, identified only as E.C., appeared by video in Natrona County Circuit Court on Wednesday and was given a $1 million bail, Oil City News reported.

E.C. is charged with killing Lenea Brown early Tuesday morning, Natrona County Coroner James Whipps said. Casper Police said the shooting was an “isolated incident” but didn’t provide any details about the shooting.

Natrona County District Attorney Dan Itzen told the court on Wednesday that E.C. is charged with premeditated murder as well as stalking the victim from April 18 to May 14. Itzen asked for the $1 million bond while E.C.’s attorney asked for half that.

“Obviously, these are serious charges. A month prior to this he had been making homicidal and suicidal threats,” Itzen said, according to the Cowboy State Daily, adding that the teen “wanted to have a gun battle with law enforcement.”

The judge agreed to the higher bond, ordering drug and alcohol testing if he does bond out.

Natrona County School District spokesperson Tanya Southerland told the Daily that Brown was a student at Natrona County High School.

“Natrona County High School will continue to offer counseling to students (and) they will remain available throughout the school year,” she said. “The NCHS school community is supporting students and each other during this devastating time. We encourage parents and guardians to reach out to their child’s school if they have questions regarding available resources in our schools and community to support their child.”

A preliminary hearing will be held in 20 days if the boy bonds out or 10 days if he doesn’t, the judge said, according to Oil City News.
