Alabama Man Charged With Murder of Girlfriend’s 4-Month-Old Son

An Alabama man has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend’s 4-month-old son after the infant died Wednesday from injures suffered on April 25.

Jacquon Ledarrion Stewart was initially charged with aggravated child abuse, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said, but the charges were upgraded to murder after the baby’s death, according to WBRC.

Deputies responded to the Hallmark Apartments in Tuscaloosa on April 25, and the baby was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham and placed on life support.

Doctors said the child suffered significant internal injuries consistent with child abuse.

“The injuries were determined to be life-threatening and later on that same day, the child was placed on life support,” Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jack Kennedy said on Thursday. “Yesterday, the hospital informed us that child had passed away. In consultation with the District Attorney’s Office this morning, those charges have been upgrade to felony murder.”

Kennedy said that Stewart is not the baby’s father but was the mother’s live-in boyfriend.

Charging documents say Stewart “caused abusive head trauma” to the baby, who was identified in court records as “EH,” AL.com reported.
