Police in Florida believe they have found the body of a Tampa mom who disappeared last week along with her 9-year-old daughter.
Authorities cancelled an Amber Alert for Briana Pagan when she was found in a Suwannee County hotel, but her mother, Sylvia Pagan, remained missing, as CrimeOnline reported.
The man suspected of kidnapping them, Jovanni Caceres Steffani, shot himself during negotiations with police after they rescued the little girl.
The body believed to be Pagan’s was found in Wimauma, an unincorporated area south of Tampa, WTVT reported. Tampa Police said the Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the identity and provide the official cause of death.
“This is not the outcome anyone wanted,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “We send our condolences to Sylvia’s loved ones, but most importantly her daughter Briana during this unimaginable loss.”
Caceras Steffani was the only suspect in the kidnappings and now apparent murder.
