Shanna Gardner, the former wife of slain Florida Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan, allegedly wrote “good luck!” on a check to a hit man she’s accused of hiring to kill Bridegan in 2022, a witness testified during a bond hearing Wednesday.
Witnesses testified Wednesday in a Duval County courtroom, to determine whether Gardner should receive bond. She stands accused of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, solicitation to commit a capital felony, and child endangerment.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Gardner and her second husband, Mario Fernandez Saldana, allegedly offered $150,000 to Fernandez-Saldana’s former tenant, Henry Tenon, to kill Bridegan.
A $5,000 check dated April 4, 2022, was allegedly sent from the defendant to Tenon that read “Kickstarter” and “Good luck!,” according to Jacksonville Beach Police Department Detective Chris Johns, who testified at the hearing.
“Mr. Tenon stated that this was the first of many payments that were supposed to be an investment into his pallet company which was actually payment for the homicide,” Jacksonville Beach Police Department Det. Chris Johns testified, according to FOX News Digital.
Prosecutors alleged that the agreement was a “contract killing of Jared Bridegan.”
Saldana is facing the same charges as his wife, while Tenon is facing second-degree murder with a weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, accessory after the fact to a capital felony, and child abuse, according to The Florida Times-Union.
On February 16, 2022, Bridegan was shot to death in Jacksonville Beach after dropping off his twin children whom he shared with Gardner at her home.
Bridegan came upon a tire obstructing the road and got out of his vehicle when he was shot repeatedly with a 10mm handgun. His 2-year-old daughter was in the vehicle’s back seat.
Bridegan and Gardner were in the midst of a bitter divorce and were disputing custody over the twins at the time of the slaying. Before the divorce, Gardner allegedly was heard asking in a tattoo parlor if anyone could “shut him up,” about Bridegan.
Court documents indicate that Gardner had been frustrated about the custody arrangements and the parenting disagreements with Bridegan for years. Five years before Bridegan’s death, Gardner allegedly spoke about hiring a hitman.
Detectives suggested that the initial plans to eliminate Bridegan took shape during the time of the divorce filings.
Fernandez-Saldana, who married Gardner in 2018, allegedly said that Gardner and Bridegan’s “kids were better off with Bridegan out of the picture.”
“Gardner had told her Fernandez-Saldana made statements that he could “get four guys” to “take care of him [Bridegan] and nobody would ever know,” court documents state.
