Karen Read reportedly appeared upset Wednesday during the murder trial of her Boston police officer boyfriend, rolling her eyes after jurors heard an emotional witness testimony.
Read, 44, attended day 12 of the trial in Dedham Superior Court in Massachusetts. She faces second-degree murder charges for allegedly reversing her car into her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, then leaving him for dead in January 2022, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
Read has pleaded not guilty, claiming she’s a scapegoat in a conspiracy involving Massachusetts law enforcement. Her defense argued that O’Keefe was killed in a fight at his friend Brian Albert’s home and that evidence was mishandled or doctored to implicate Read.
The murder suspect reacted sourly following court testimony from Allison McCabe, New York Post reports. Allison McCabe is the daughter of Jennifer McCabe. Jennifer was reportedly with the defendant on the night of January 29, 2022, when they discovered O’Keefe’s body in a snowbank at around 6 a.m.
Read’s attorneys argued that Jennifer McCabe played a key role in the alleged cover-up. They claim a man identified as Colin Albert was involved in the fight at Brian Albert’s residence that led to O’Keefe’s death.
“Colin wasn’t at the house. He’s being harassed for– he was not at the house when John [O’Keefe] was there. I drove him home. People are harassing him saying he was at the house when it’s not true– Constant phone calls. Emails. Awful messages,” Allison McCabe testified.
Boston.com reports that the court was then shown text messages between Colin Albert and Allison McCabe from the night of January 28-29, 2022.
