11-Year-Old Florida Boy in Custody for Shooting, Killing 55-Year-Old Family Member

An 11-year-old Florida boy was taken into custody Friday after he allegedly shot and killed a 55-year-old relative.

Ocoee police were called to the home shortly before 8 a.m. and found Sandra Pape King with a gunshot wound, WESH reported. She was taken to Advent Helath Apopka, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said King was shot inside the home and that she and the boy lived at the home.

Neighbors were upset about the incident, and one told WESH they heard screaming and saw King on the ground in the driveway after she stumbled out of the house.

Family members appeared in juvenile court on Saturday, when the boy’s attorney waived his appearance, WFTV reported. A cousin asked the judge to allow family to see him.

“He biologically is my cousin. My mom has been his guardian since he was 6 weeks old,” she said.

“He doesn’t understand what’s going on. I don’t even think he knows he killed her,” she added.

The judge granted permission for family to see the boy at the juvenile detention center, where he will remain at least until his next court date.

It’s not clear what charges the boy will face, and police have not said what led to the shooting.
