Investigators returned to the Long Island home of serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann Monday morning, but it was completely unknown what they may be looking for.
Heuermann’s attorney, Michael J. Brown, and Robert Macedonio, who represent’s his wife, told Newsday police were executing search warrants at the home, but Suffolk County officials declined to comment.
“As District Attorney (Ray) Tierney has previously stated, the work of the Gilgo Beach Homicide Task force is continuing,” communications director Tania Lopez said. “We do not comment on investigative steps while ongoing.”
Macedonio said the Massepequa Park family home is currently empty, with Heuermann’s wife, Asa Ellerup, and her son in South Carolina. The couple’s daughter, Victoria Heuermann, is staying elsewhere, he said.
“I haven’t found a copy of the warrant yet, so all I can confirm is there is police activity,” Macedonio said. “There have been no [new] arrests made nor are we anticipating any for the family.”
Brown also confirmed the warrant but said he had no information.
The search comes 10 months after investigators completed a lengthy search of the property after they arrested Heuermann, 60, for the murders of three of the so-called Gilgo 4, four women found dead and buried along a desolate stretch of Gilgo Beach in 2010. Heuermann was later charged with the murder of the fourth woman, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
Heuermann, a Manhattan architect, pleaded not guilty to the murders of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Lynn Costello after his July 13 arrest last year. In January, he added a not guilty plea for the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes.
Investigators also launched a series of searches last month on Long Island but said they were related to another murder and not the Gilgo Beach murders.
Heuermann’s next court date is scheduled for the second week of June.
