A North Carolina man was arrested on Monday for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and seriously wounding her mother’s fiance on Saturday.
The Gaston Gazette reported that David McDowell, 24, killed the mother of his 2-year-old son, Zanayah White, 19, at her Gastonia home. He allegedly then walked outside and shot her mother’s fiance in the face.
White’s mother told the Gaston Gazette that after the deadly shooting, McDowell possibly sent threatening messages to family members.
According to the mother, White tried to get a restraining order against McDowell but could not because he did not have a permanent address. She claimed that before the shooting, McDowell posted a song to Facebook about painting the sky red with her blood.
White’s mother also said she believed McDowell killed her daughter because she was in a new relationship. According to her, he came to the home and demanded White give him her phone.
“He killed my baby, just ’cause she wouldn’t give him her cellphone,” she told the Gaston Gazette.
McDowell is charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not disclosed the other shooting victim’s condition.
